2 day trips outside of Rome
Rome is an amazing city, as we have already established in an article that outlines a 3 day itinerary. We hardly can imagine you needing a break from the city, but if you do there are some really awesome places nearby that you might want to consider checking out. In this article we will bring you to three of the best things to do on a day trip outside of Rome.
Itinerary:
Wine Tasting in Marino
Scuba Diving in Nettuno
Wine Tasting in Marino
San Mario is a small hillside town just south of Rome that is known for its excellent viticulture. If you have the chance to break away from the busy city of Rome, consider giving Marino a try, you may be surprised by what you find!
Trains will leave from Termini somewhat often and to get there it will take you around 25 to 30 minutes. You will notice as you leave Rome that the terrain becomes more rolling as the train winds though valleys and up out along ridges. Rome, itself is not so flat, but you could say that here you are really entering the foothills, a prime area for growing all kinds of grapes.
Getting from the train station to the town will require you to walk uphill for a few hundred meters but trust me when we say that it is worth it. With only around 38 thousand people living here it is a quiet town, but that can be seen as a positive if you are in need of a chill vibe after exploring Rome for a few days.
Scuba Diving in Nettuno
Something incredible about Rome is just how close you are to the Mediterranean. Romans and travelers can enjoy only an hour-long train or car ride to the some of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. Here you will find breathtaking views and some hidden gems.
Nettuno is a resort town located just southwest of Rome. Not only can you come here for a great day in the sun at the beach, but you can also find numerous other activities and cultural sites to explore…some underwater….
As the name implies, Nettuno is home to some marvelous ruins underwater caused by rising tides. There are various local guides that are willing to take you there. Be sure to go on a day the water is not as choppy. Visibility can be an issue.
